Ground has officially been broken on Maui Jack’s Waterpark on Chincoteague Island, company officials said on November 29, 2017. Blue Water Development said the park, which is on Maddox Boulevard, is slated for an opening on Memorial Day weekend 2018. Adjacent to Chincoteague Island KOA, the park features 4.15 acres of vibrant Hawaiian-themed amusements designed for the whole family. Maui Jack’s is within walking distance to Chincoteague Island KOA, a sister property of owner Blue Water Development. According to the park’s architect, Michael O’Neill, president of Berlin-based Waterpark Consulting, LLC, there will be elements for children, parents and everyone in between. ”Over the years, I’ve been to 50 waterparks to do my homework, to see what works and what doesn’t,” O’Neill said. “One thing I’ve learned is that parents want a lazy river, and kids want slides.” Maui Jack’s will have both, officials said. The park features also include a large kiddie structure with rain curtains, a tipping bucket and slides for youngsters, as well as a 620-foot lazy river encircling the park and two waterslide towers for the bigger kids and adults, a news release states. The park will be Hawaiian-themed, from the names and colors of the attractions to the uniforms, music and 70 palm trees that will be planted, according to a news release. The Jack Spot will offer a beach bar and food, and there will be cabanas available for rent. A 150-car parking lot is also being formed. Maui Jack’s is located at 6742 Maddox Blvd., Chincoteague Island. Passes may be purchased at www.mauijacks.com. (2017/12/20)
