The Taipei City Self-Government Ordinance for Regulating the Establishment of Electronic Game Arcade Businesses that have has been procrastinated for many years finally passed its third reading in the Taipei City Council. The content of this Self-Government Ordinance is considered as officially lifting restrictions on general-rate electronic arcades. The requirements have been relaxed, demanding that a general-rate electronic arcade business site shall be connected to a road that is wider than 12 meters and maintain a distance of longer than 50 meters from any kindergarten, junior high school, elementary school, high school, vocational school, hospital or library. However, the requirements on restricted-rate electronic game arcades remain strict, demanding that a restricted-rate electronic game arcade business site shall be connected to a road that is wider than 30 meters and maintain a distance of longer than 1,000 meters from any kindergarten, junior high school, elementary school, high school, vocational school, hospital or library.
In accordance with the requirements in the Self-Government Ordinance, currently, there are only a few locations in Taipei City that can meet the requirements. Those large-scale department stores and hypermarkets that have opened in recent years are more likely to apply for the establishment of general-rate electronic game arcades. Qualified hypermarkets include AiMai Geant Dazhi Store, RT-Mart Neihu First Store, RT-Mart Neihu Second Store, Carrefour Neihu Store, Carrefour Guilin Store and Costco Neihu Store. Qualified department stores and malls include Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi New Life Square A4, A8, A9 and A11, Taipei 101 Mall, Core Pacific City, Miramar Entertainment Park and Breeze Center.
