Merlin and Sony join hands to create more attractions |
Sony Pictures Entertainment and Merlin Entertainments are looking to develop further intellectual property from the vast catalogue of Sony IP. The news follows recent attractions collaborations between the companies, such as Merlin's recent World of Jumanji attraction in the UK and a Jumanji dark ride at Italy's Gardaland resort, both officially licensing the Sony-owned Jumanji IP.
O'Neil and Sony Pictures Entertainment partnerships executive vice president, Jeffrey Godsick, have now been further inspired by two highly successful Super Nintendo World attractions in the US and Japan, a collaboration between Universal Pictures and Nintendo. Speaking about the Super Nintendo World parks, O'Neil commented that "it's not lost on us what's been really successful," with Godsick adding that Sony fans could look forward to diverse IP-based attractions, as the company examines "everything across the board, not just in movies, in all of the IP content that we have."
The Verge theorised that entire PlayStation-themed lands could arise from this ambitious collaboration, with a huge catalogue of titles new and old to draw inspiration from. (2023/06/02)
