Recently, the big German home games trade show Gamescom 2022 was held successfully in Cologne. Many famous manufacturers joined this big event, including Microsoft, Bandai Namco, Warner Bros., THQ, 2K, Ubisoft Entertainment, SEGA, AMD, Tencent, Netease, to name a few. And in this show, there is one special exhibitor and that’s McDonald’s. McDonald’s showed its Better M Cubes, an escape room pod where players could take part in escape game puzzles. At the same time the company’s sustainability measures could be marketed to guests. The first "official McDonald’s Escape Room", as it was dubbed at the show, had games developed by specialist Locked Adventures. Players raced against the clock to sold all the puzzles with winners awarded a McDonald’s Golden Card as a prize. The rest of the booth included mini-games and AR-based experiences, all designed to promote the self-sustainable message. If this was just a one-off promotional experience, or if this was part of a greater plan to incorporate official McDonald's escape rooms on premises, was not revealed during the event. However, there is no doubt that it was a very successful marketing promotion, for it incorporated the social entertainment experience to draw the attention from the large crowd of audience in the show and gather the largest awareness from the audience. It is said that Gamescom 2022 has witnessed about 1,100 exhibitors from 53 different countries and more than 250,000 visitors from all over the world . (2022/09/22) |
