Laba Festival - A prelude to the Spring Festival |
Today is called major cold in the 24 solar terms and also the Laba Festival, which means the Chinese New Year is coming soon. Laba Festival is celebrated on the eighth day of the last lunar month, referring to the traditional start of celebrations for the Chinese New Year. The worship of ancestors, called "臘(La)" in Chinese, and the sacrifice for the gods, called "臘(La)", both frequently took place in the 12th month, which led to the traditional name of the month: La Yue. It is not only regarded as a day of sacrifice, but also a prelude to the Spring Festival. On the day of Laba Festival, Chinese people will eat Laba rice porridge and Laba garlic to pray for a good harvest and good luck for the family in the coming New Year.
