New water park proposed for Northport, Alabama, USA |
On March 2nd, a proposal to fund the construction of a new water park in Northport, Alabama, using portions of the city's 1-cent sales tax revenue was presented to the city council by Councilman Jeff Hogg. Part of the projected $5 million estimated annual revenue from the recently enacted 1-cent sales tax increase is earmarked for outdoor activities and recreation, he said, if council members agree to his plan of taking out a bond issue to repay with future sales tax proceeds. He also said that while the council must spend money on roads and other government services, it’s the duty of council representatives to envision amenities citizens need and want. If approved, the $7 million project will feature a lazy river, a tumble bucket, an indoor splash pad, water guns and four water slides, with opening expected in summer 2022. (2020/03/18) |
