Australia’s NSW clubs and pubs record higher net profit in 2018

NSW’s clubs and hotels recorded a modest year-on-year increase in profit during the second half of the year in 2018, despite the number of gaming machines falling by 749 in the period, according to figures from the NSW Department of Industry.
The latest report from the state gaming regulator sheds light into the number of gaming machines across the state, along with the number of gaming venues and net profit rankings for clubs and hotel venues – which are permitted to offer slot machines and ETGs to the public.
The club data covers the six months from 1 June 2018 to 30 November 2018, while the hotel data covered from 1 July 2018 to 31 December 2018. In the club report, overall net profit increased by 0.5 percent year-on-year, with areas generating the most profit being Fairfield and Canterbury-Bankstown.
However, the number of club gaming venues shrank in the period, falling by 17 compared to the prior year period, along with the number of gaming machines in operation, which fell by 565. The number of hotel gaming venues (pubs) also fell in the half-year, down 59, while the number of gaming machines in operation fell by 184 across the hotels in the state. Net profit rose for hotels as well, up 6.4 percent year-on-year. (2019/06/10)
