Romania has lowered the VAT rate for amusement parks to five per cent from November 1. The move, which also applies to hotel rooms, restaurants, catering, gymnasiums, applies to the entrance fees for the parks industry. The rate was previously 19 per cent. The move is designed to stimulate the development of the business sectors involved and reduce the widespread fiscal fraud that takes place. The move has its critics, who believe that other rising costs will negate any benefit to encourage guests. (2018/11/26)
