SkyZone Trampoline Park coming to Bergenfield at former Sears site |
The proposal to build a SkyZone Trampoline Park has been approved for South Washington Avenue on the site of the former Sears Appliance and Hardware Store. The Bergenfield Zoning Board approved the preliminary and final site plan for the facility at its meeting last week. David Weinberg of Ohio-based MODA4 Design, representing the trampoline project, sought variances to repurpose the building for indoor recreational use. The building, which is currently zoned for retail use, was a skating rink before Sears moved in. The plan calls for the facility to occupy 28,072 square feet of the 33,005 square-foot building, with the remaining space to be used by a future tenant.
The park would operate six days a week and be closed on Mondays. It would be used during the summer for morning camps. The building has not been occupied since 2014 when Sears closed its appliance and hardware store after 15 years in business. Before that, it was home to "The Rink," a popular skating arena for two decades. Betsy Dolan of Dolan & Dean Consulting Engineers, traffic engineer for the project, said during the busiest times on Fridays and Saturdays, there will be 40 vehicles entering and exiting from the parking lot on to South Washington Avenue.
